Hebrew School

Our mission is to provide a quality Jewish education in a fun, open and supportive atmosphere that encourages and depends on high parental involvement.

Our religious school is a core component of our congregation. Our kids learn in an enjoyable atmosphere while learning Hebrew and religious literacy, life cycle events, and Jewish history, values, ethics and culture.

Joysa Winter is serving as the religious school director for the coming year. A preparatory-year student at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, she recently moved to Philadelphia from Denver, where she worked as a journalist and massage therapist. Joysa loves teaching, and has been teaching Hebrew school on a part-time basis for the past eight years. Last year she was a mentor in a CAJE teacher training program in Denver, and she has recently begun writing a textbook on Israel for Behrman House publishing company. She spent six months studying at the Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem, and graduated with degrees in journalism, German and Spanish from the University of Missouri-Columbia. The combination of Joysa's knowledge, skills and enthusiasm and the small class size makes for a more intimate and more flexible setting for our children's Jewish education.

We have multiple grade levels to more closely tailor the childrens' experience with their aptitudes and ages. Each level has its own teacher.

Dubonim

Ages 3-4, meets Sunday once a month, time TBD

K-2nd

Ages 5-8, meets Sunday once a week, time TBD

3rd-5th

Ages 8-12, meets Sunday time TBD, Tuesday 6pm (twice a week)

The small size of our school also means small teacher to student ratios (we average about 1:4) and greater personal attention. This plus the involvement of parents means less time spent on discipline and more spent on education.

For more information about our school, please contact Cary Oshins at 610-434-5118 or email him at caryoshins@amhaskalah.org
