Congregation Am Haskalah fosters in our students a strong and joyful
Reconstructionist Jewish identity, and prepares them to be comfortable, confident
and active participants in the many communities, Jewish and other, they encounter.
Our religious school is a core component of our congregation. In an enjoyable and
engaging environment, students learn Hebrew and religious literacy, life cycle events,
and Jewish history, values, ethics and culture. Teachers craft age-appropriate lessons
based on the school’s curriculum. We have multiple grade levels to more closely tailor
the childrens' experience with their aptitudes and ages.
For the 2011/2012 school year (the 5772 Jewish year!), all classes in the Religious
School meet on Sundays at Congregation Brith Sholom (CBS), 1190 West Macada Road in Bethlehem, PA.
Classes meet from 9:00-10:00 am for Hebrew instruction (beginning in
3rd grade), followed by Religious Studies from 10:00-12:00 noon.
Kitah Aleph (ages 5-9) Kitah Aleph students entering 3rd grade
begin at 9:00 am for Hebrew instruction; students in 1st and 2nd grade
join the class for Religious Studies from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon.
Kitah Bet (ages 10 and up) Kitah Bet students begin at 9:00 am
for Hebrew instruction and continue with Religious Studies from 10:00 am
- 12:00 noon.
Dubonim: Bring your “Little Bear” and join in for Jewish fun and
learning! Dubonim is Congregation Am Haskalah’s preschool program for children
and their parents (or other important adults in their lives). We meet monthly
during the school year to learn about being Jewish in an hour-long session with
teacher Monica Lemelman: holidays, rituals, songs, crafts, food, and always…fun!
The first meeting will be on Sunday, September 18 at 10:30am. Children and their
caregivers are invited to participate with the older children in a service from
10am-10:30am. Cost is $10/session. For more information or to enroll, please
contact Rebecca Metzger at rebecca_metzger@yahoo.com or 610-438-0344.
